Why are people afraid of mice and spiders but not squirrels and ants?

I think it's cultural - because I have a few Chinese friends who are super afraid of squirrels (squirrels? I love squirrels.. they're SO CUTE). In the US we're taught that mice are dirty and likely to have disease, and spiders can bite and cause us to become ill or lose a finger or whatever. Ants (unless they're fire ants or some rare type of African ant) are viewed as little and harmless... some people find squirrels annoying because they steal all the seeds from the bird feeder and take vegetables from the garden or dig holes, but they also have fluffy tales and hop around and ';munch'; on acorns (the word munch just can't be used for scary things). Some people think they are rabid. My Chinese friends said squirrels are like rats with tales and disease.. so.. yeah... I really think it's cultural. Why are people afraid of mice and spiders but not squirrels and ants?
eww because mice run really fast.. i mean i do find some cute but some are so scary. and spiders they're nasty looking and their legs and eyes they freak me out bad. Im afraid of squirrels too! they just stop everything and look at you like they're planning to attack you haha makes me walk faster.

I think people are just afraid of them more because we hear that spiders are posinous(some), they can crawl on anything which means your bed, and mice they can run really fast and the thought of one running up your leg is even worse. People have their own reasons to be afraid of something you won't ever be able to find an exact reason. Why are people afraid of mice and spiders but not squirrels and ants?
Well ants are so little it kinda seems foolish to be afraid of them, and mice and spiders you come accross more often in your homes and personal spaces so people are more likely to form phobias about them.
I don't know, I am REALLY SUPER scared of spiders. But not ants, mice, or squirrels.....
umm.. i'm afraid of ants.
